So, 3 mags, that requires 2 pouches? Perhaps one pouch and the other mag in the gasmask bag?
Who has repro pouches for the Ppsh drums?

Thats probably your best bet, I don't think they ever issued more than 2 drum mags with 1 pouch. Not to say you couldn't have a battle pick up. I'd personally like to go for the more common 1 drum and 3 stick mag combo if possible.

Original drum mags can be found fairly easily for not alot. Most likely post war but there were lots of designs so as long as its not Chinese they'll be fine.

Yeah, I think the standard was one drum in the gun, one in the pouch.

I intend to get myself a couple of mid cap drums before the next ruskie event and run them like that. I'll be down slightly on ammo from the 300 round limit, but it shouldn't be an issue.

Of course another advantage of a mid cap over a high cap is that it doesn't have the damn winder ruining the look if you also want to use the gun for public re-enactments. For that reason alone I'm rather glad I've gone for the HP if the Ares doesn't have any mids!

Again the Thompson drum wins...

It's supposed to have the winder on the front.

It's quite hard to spot the winder on mine as it is a Thompson hi cap winder in the base, in any case I have a real PPSH41 and the mag from that will fit my home made airsoft model I think.
The MOPS don't know any better anyway most have no idea that airsoft guns exist.

I think the PPSH is the fastest airsoft AEG to load being that you just open the whole side and pour them in.

Crikey, only $200 for the Ares! Must resist... (having too many guns already. And having ordered a v. expensive pair of Marschstiefel!) It says it does 370fps - what fps have you guys found your PPSh is doing ?

I've found my HP one to be "adequate" within the specified limits. First thing I did when I got it was to replace the hop rubber and bucking though. It shoots much better than it did out of the box. Personally, I've always found that fps isn't the be all and end all for range, accuracy and consistency.

You're right there, Pete. My old TM M14 only fired at about 280, but it had good range. I was more thinking of accepted FPS limits.

Anyway, it's irrelevant, because I'm going to be a good boy and not buy one.

Not yet, anyway.

I replaced the bucking, but not the hop rubber in mine. I do mean to replace the hop unit itself at some point as it's very "sloppy".

The only real issue I've had with it is the mags misfeeding, but that is now fixed and not a problem with the newer ones.

Just watched the reveiw. They must have improved the hop in the Mk2 as my mk1 with TM hop rubber and nub and new tight bore ( which is actualy a G36K length barrel not a C) is only shooting out to 50-60 meters. Yes it takes a 8.4v battery but only the small type. You can get mid cap drum mags for them now which are 110rd but there £39 + postage from airsoft world which I think is a rip off, or about $35 + Postage from Gunner airsoft in Hong Kong. I've drawn up plans for a MP40 mag adaptor and got a price from a guy to mill and cut holes etc but it's working out to be around £80 to do. This was all in one piece so looking to maybe do it in 2 peices and screw together. It won't be spot on but it will do. It looks pretty good with the mp40 mags in, I'll try and get a picture up later, I used a mock up from hi-dense foam I made to see what it looked like.

That's really good range for any AEG!

Fully agree, but I had to do the mods mentioned, and PTFE around the hop under the adjusting ring so it didn't move about with vibration from firing, to get it to do this, it wasn't that good out of the box as reveiw said. But I love mine, it is fantastic to use and I got some great hits with it at the Gunman Anzio game in November.

That's good news I'll be getting one of those when they become availabe in the UK. I know it's still a hicap but it's fine for a 600 rpl game. As they say it also changes the look of the gun. In the meantime I've got to replace the trigger contacts with a mosfet because the Lipo I was running has burned them out

Used my Ares PPsh for the first time at the weekend and it died! More specifically the monkey metal Piston follower for the blow-back mechanism sheared the lug which engages the bolt and
Then got jammed behind the piston and Locked up the gearbox!

I also replaced the POS motor which smoked and sparked like a knackered scalextic car from the qord go, with a Marui one I had spare!

All working again now as a non-blowback aeg and all the better for it!
